Local History Book:
For the 150th anniversary of the completion of the original Murmungee School/Hall in 1869 a local history book was launched. This limited edition volume entitled “Gold, Grog, and Good Ground” chronicles the story of the Bowmans Forest/Murmungee Basin during the indigenous people, squatters, gold miners, and early selectors’ occupation. In addition some of the iconic locations, events and personalities are examined and explained. Although the book was a sell-out the Libraries of Myrtleford, Beechworth and Wangaratta retain copies for loan. Discover how this important piece of real estate encapsulates the fascinating themes of Australian history.
